I killed a leaf

My leg stopped being in motion

At the sight of a creeping plant

Which looked so strange!

It bore no tendrils and

Pink were it’s buds but

Flowers purple, so tiny yet

Fragrant so divine.

I plucked a leaf from it’s tip

A tender leaf, which was not

At it’s best.

I pressed it against

The herculean strength of

My index finger and my thumb.

I pressed it hard,

Until the plasma collapsed and

The vacuoles bursts.

Until the walls broke down and

Turned to mesh,

Until the chlorophyll made my thumb green,

I asked the leaf,

Can you feel me killing you?

Does it hurt?

Is there any pain?

Then I wiped the tears

From my eyes,

The chlorophyll spread to my cheeks.

When did I stop loving the world?

When did the world stop loving me?

Maybe when my conscience broke

My heart turned green.

  1. I am speechless after reading this Adi. It’s so emotional. I am sure the leaf felt pain and so did you as indicated by the tears. A heart which can write like this never stops loving and is never stopped being loved.🤗♥️

  3. This is so damn beautiful!
This reminds of an old disney movie called ‘A troll in central park’. The only difference is that the troll had a magical green thumb with which he could grow flowers & trees. (:

  4. In-depth thought. So, was the action based on compassion, curiosity or malice? I see that you identified with the very nature of the object of your action. It reminds me of love beyond comprehension that you had feelings for the leaf and if the leaf could speak – it would say that’s okay – I love you. I could have some spiritual connotation as well. 🙂

    1. The world is a strange place, and act of killing that leaf was not intentional. It wasn’t out if hate either, it all happened in the moment out of the pressure and lack of love from the world that the person was experience and mostly out of fear too.

      1. True. The world in itself does not reflect true love and the pressures of life contribute to irrational actions. There needs to be a regeneration of love within self to help contribute to the overall generation of love in the world. While many don’t agree, true love from what I’ve found is through the love of God. 🙂
